Hi, I’m Darrell. September 2023, I had a heart attack that turned my world upside down. I’ll be honest, it was one of the toughest times of my life. I was unsure of what the future held, but I’m happy to say that with the help of the NDIS and the amazing team at Nursing Solutions Group, I’m now living a life filled with purpose, connection, and hope.

I remember feeling lost, wondering how I was going to manage everything on my own. If not for the NDIS, I honestly don’t know where I’d be right now. But here I am today, sharing my story to hopefully inspire others in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven areas who might be feeling the same way.

Life Today: My Goals and Enjoyment

Thanks to the support I receive twice a week, I’ve been able to keep doing the things I love. For me, that’s going for walks, enjoying a good game of ten-pin bowling, and watching cooking shows (I swear, I’ve learned so much from those!). And of course, I still make my fortnightly trips to Bomaderry Bowling Club for dinner – it’s become a bit of a ritual on paydays.

More than anything, I want to stay in my rental home and keep my health in check. That’s my big goal – and the team at Nursing Solutions Group is right there with me, helping make it happen. They’ve been incredible, showing respect, giving quality time, and genuinely caring about my well-being every time they visit.

How My Support Team Helps

The support workers who come around are fantastic. They use the time we have wisely, helping me with my errands, taking me to medical appointments, or just making sure I’ve got everything I need from the shops. I handle my own personal hygiene, and I’m lucky to be mobile and independent in that way. What I really appreciate, though, is knowing there’s someone there to lend a hand, whether it’s with transport or just having a chat. It makes a huge difference to my day-to-day life.
